The Western Governors' Association (WGA) and the U.S. Department of Energy are working on identifying high quality renewable energy resources in the West. This four-phase process includes mapping the location of these best resources and working on conceptual transmission plans for moving the renewable electricity from its source to the market.
This effort is called the Western Renewable Energy Zones (WREZ) project. This first phase identifies geographically linked resources that are suitable for large scale development. The renewable resources identified for development in Oregon are wind and geothermal.
